  43. There is a .au player for windows called WHAM.  As long as you have the GUS
  44. drivers for windows installed, then WHAM will play the .au files (among 
  45. many other formats) on your GUS.  You can get it at the ftp site
  46. ftp.ncsa.uiuc.edu in /PC/Mosaic/Viewers I think.
  47. MTV has a WWW site where you can download .au files of current songs, if 
  48. you have an ethernet hookup to the net, check it out using Mosaic.

  80. The GUS' pins are [r g g l] (at least for the 2.4 - 3.x revisions), so the
  81. GUS end of the connector seems to be correct.  I would think that only one
  82. of the ground pins need be grounded, but you might try grounding both to
  83. see if that matters.

  115. I wonder if it is possible to customize MEGAEM, so that (most of) the  
  116. correct patches are loaded - instead of the standard set of patches.
  117. I imagine that one could find out (don't ask me how) which MIDI  
  118. instruments are really used by a certain game, so that you can decide  
  119. which of the standard patches to replace by other, more suiting ones.
  120. This could eliminate the 'wrong sounds' you can hear in many game  
  121. tunes and which I find extremely annoying.
  122. Let me know what you think of this idea, and if you know how to do  
  123. this.

  155. I am a happy recent owner of a GUS... well, I still have some
  156. problems to make both my GUS and my SBPro live together, but
  157. it's fun after all.

  159. One thing that is really boring me is my Windows start. Since
  160. I installed the GUS drivers, Windows now takes several seconds
  161. to start up because the driver loads a lot of those patches...
  162. It looks kinda useless, since the correct patches will be loaded
  163. again for each .MID file I want to play.

  165. My question is: IS THERE A WAY TO TELL THAT STUPID DRIVER NOT
  166. TO LOAD THE DAMNED PATCHES BY THE WINDOWS START ???

  229. Unfortunately for you, William, posting binaries for this reason would be
  230. inappropriate.  Besides, comp.binaries.ibm.pc is moderated, which means
  231. that the files would have to be submitted for approval before they could
  232. be posted, and that takes about three months with the backlog that group
  233. has.

  235. You have e-mail access, though, so you can get files via mail.  Send a
  236. message to ftpmail@decwrl.dec.com, with the single line 'help' in the body
  237. of the message.  The ftpmail server, if given the right commands, will ftp
  238. a file for you, uuencode it, and mail the result where ever you specify. 
  239. It's all detailed in the help message you will receive.

  252. I downloaded the new files from EPAS today (yesterday).  As no doubt many
  253. people will mention today, GUS0037.ZIP is a new version of SBOS, version
  254. 3.7B2.  This is an offical release (not that makeshift release from that
  255. game).  I haven't checked out GUS0038.ZIP yet;  it's 2 megs and I didn't
  256. want to terribly irritate my roomate by downloading 2 MB at 2400 bps.  But
  257. I'm sure someone will know what it is...

  274. I have had a similar problem with the Gabriel Knight CD and the New windows
  275. drivers.  Here are the symptoms:
  276.  
  277.     1) breaks to dos if EMM386 has been loaded into memory and
  278.          drops to DOS.
  279.     2) Using only HIMEM.SYS, Gabriel Knight CD works for a while,
  280.         then at some random point, the program crashes and
  281.         hangs Windows
  282.     3) (Also, Microsoft Arcade Pack will crash after a short time)
  283.     4) All midi applications, Power Cords, Cakewalk ... + patchmaker work
  284.         fine, so I don't know what the problem is.
  285.  
  286. Solution:  I reverted to the earlier windows drivers and everything works
  287.         fine.  (even emm386)  This is my suggestion to your
  288.         problem.  If you miss the fact that you can save the
  289.         ultrasound settings from the mixer, you can do the 
  290.         same thing from the control panel.
