There is a .au player for windows called WHAM. As long as you have the GUS
drivers for windows installed, then WHAM will play the .au files (among
many other formats) on your GUS. You can get it at the ftp site
ftp.ncsa.uiuc.edu in /PC/Mosaic/Viewers I think.
MTV has a WWW site where you can download .au files of current songs, if
you have an ethernet hookup to the net, check it out using Mosaic.

The GUS' pins are [r g g l] (at least for the 2.4 - 3.x revisions), so the
GUS end of the connector seems to be correct. I would think that only one
of the ground pins need be grounded, but you might try grounding both to
see if that matters.

Subject: Customize MEGAEM ?
I wonder if it is possible to customize MEGAEM, so that (most of) the
correct patches are loaded - instead of the standard set of patches.
I imagine that one could find out (don't ask me how) which MIDI
instruments are really used by a certain game, so that you can decide
which of the standard patches to replace by other, more suiting ones.
This could eliminate the 'wrong sounds' you can hear in many game
tunes and which I find extremely annoying.
Let me know what you think of this idea, and if you know how to do
this.
Greetings,
Gerd.

OK, who uploaded a 2.5meg file? How about if some nice person could split this
up into something that fits onto a floppy please.
Also what's the story with the v3.1 disks, are these to be mailed to anyone?

Subject: GUS Windows driver
Hi ev'ryone!
I am a happy recent owner of a GUS... well, I still have some
problems to make both my GUS and my SBPro live together, but
it's fun after all.
One thing that is really boring me is my Windows start. Since
I installed the GUS drivers, Windows now takes several seconds
to start up because the driver loads a lot of those patches...
It looks kinda useless, since the correct patches will be loaded
again for each .MID file I want to play.
My question is: IS THERE A WAY TO TELL THAT STUPID DRIVER NOT
TO LOAD THE DAMNED PATCHES BY THE WINDOWS START ???
Thanks in advance,
Snoopy.

Hi, I have a question about indycar and the 32 bit miles drivers, how
do I get engine sounds? I assume that I have to somehow adjust the
patch.ini file.
Thanks Mike

For some reason the 32-AIL driver only gives SFX when crashing or at the
beginning announcement. There is no engine or skidding sounds. The music sounds
great though. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately for you, William, posting binaries for this reason would be
inappropriate. Besides, comp.binaries.ibm.pc is moderated, which means
that the files would have to be submitted for approval before they could
be posted, and that takes about three months with the backlog that group
has.
You have e-mail access, though, so you can get files via mail. Send a
message to ftpmail@decwrl.dec.com, with the single line 'help' in the body
of the message. The ftpmail server, if given the right commands, will ftp
a file for you, uuencode it, and mail the result where ever you specify.
It's all detailed in the help message you will receive.

Subject: New Files at EPAS
I downloaded the new files from EPAS today (yesterday). As no doubt many
people will mention today, GUS0037.ZIP is a new version of SBOS, version
3.7B2. This is an offical release (not that makeshift release from that
game). I haven't checked out GUS0038.ZIP yet; it's 2 megs and I didn't
want to terribly irritate my roomate by downloading 2 MB at 2400 bps. But
I'm sure someone will know what it is...

I have had a similar problem with the Gabriel Knight CD and the New windows
drivers. Here are the symptoms:
1) breaks to dos if EMM386 has been loaded into memory and
drops to DOS.
2) Using only HIMEM.SYS, Gabriel Knight CD works for a while,
then at some random point, the program crashes and
hangs Windows
3) (Also, Microsoft Arcade Pack will crash after a short time)
4) All midi applications, Power Cords, Cakewalk ... + patchmaker work
fine, so I don't know what the problem is.
Solution: I reverted to the earlier windows drivers and everything works
fine. (even emm386) This is my suggestion to your
problem. If you miss the fact that you can save the
ultrasound settings from the mixer, you can do the
same thing from the control panel.
Anyone else have similar problems?

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who wrote twelling me where to get
osx-- I mean SOX and other programs!! This FAQ is a godsend.
]OK, I understand that EPAS doesn't keep the old files, so I have to go
to a mirror, right? Couyld someone tell me where the mirror is?
Thanks again! Those .au files are only 8000kw, but they are still
listenable(is that a real word?)
